HEADLINE

Fifteen branches of the Regional Trial Courts in Negros Oriental are all-out in their support for beleaguered Chief Justice Renato Corona whom most of RTC judges claim as simply a victim of political vendetta.

Wearing black shirts, only a handful of judges were present during Thursday's so-called "court holiday" because most of the judges were attending a judicial workshop in Cebu at that time.

The judges from Negros Oriental continued holding trials, some were attending judicial workshops and that there was no work stoppage. They simply vocalized their sentiments supporting the chief justice saying that once co-equal bodies will clash, the outcome is usually "bloody" in many ways.

CRITICAL REPORTING

by: ELY P. DEJARESCO
Just as most people expected, the venom of power-hungry executives are not stopping here, they are now going after two more, then four more justices of the supreme Court , even all ten of them, who might face similar impeachment cases 'if they continue favoring the Arroyo administration," Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Leila De Lima on Thursday warned the 10 other justices of the Supreme Court (SC), who were appointed by former President Arroyo, that if they will continue favoring the previous administration, they will also be impeached as President Benigno Simeon "Noynoy" Aquino III is "reclaiming the court for the people." How fast can newcomers be drunk with power.

EDITORIAL

We would like to look at this Malacañang - Supreme Court fiasco that ended up in an impeachment trial for the first time against the Chief Justice, as positively as possible in order to give the innocent minds the benefit of the doubt.

What is really the bottom line of this controversy? What is the cause? What we await with great expectation in this impeachment case is not so much on who will be guilty or not, but that henceforth reforms will have to be made in order to have, once and for all, a truly independent judiciary. Our long advocacy is that no justice of the Supreme Court should henceforth be appointed by the President who occupies an opposite seat of equal power, with Congress on the other.
