Disasters TOP 2013 NC stories

Environmental destructions, and government anomalies, are topnotchers in this year’s TEN TOP STORIES of the year 2013 as compiled by the weekly editions of the Negros CHRONICLE.

Two major typhoons, a 6.2 intensity earthquake, six dead in flash floods,, underwater storm surge at Apo Island world diving site, easily landed on top of the major natural disaster stories this year in the province of Negros Oriental.

It started as the year was just beginning on Jan. 3 last year when typhoon Auring slammed the shores of the Dumaguete port area and smashed local boats and sending adrift a passenger vessel whose hundreds of passengers were safely rescued by local volunteer teams.

Two died in that storm because they did not heed the warnings to stay away from rampaging waters. They got lost at sea.

CRITICAL REPORTING

Of negativizing SAROs in the Year of the Horse

Before anything else:

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!

It’s the year of the horse! So the fungsuey says.

For some people, Christiimas time like time is the saddest part of the year. Each one has his story to tell. But be glad, because the birth of the Christchild spells victory (over sin).

This time is also a time for others to cross the bar, from dependence to independence. Crossing the bar of emancipation is to independence is a challenging era. Somehow, it will come to pass.

God plans everything. So don’t worry. The author said that 95% of the things we worry about will not come to pass. So, be happy, don’t worry. Or, feel free to worry, for these won’t come to pass anyway.

FASHIONABLE

IT wouldseem that it is now fashionable for the dept of budget and management to “negativize” approved special allotment release orders or SAROs for one reason or another.

EDITORIAL

President Aquino who means well is too naïve to believe that reforms and changes in the system of governance, particularly the pursuit of the straight path (daangmatuid) will occur under his term.

No. If serious, it should take at least two generations to get a breed of honest ,committed , and transparent public servants. And it starts with today’s children, not with the old folks.

Unless we seriously train our periscopes to the new generation or two, the present one is a hopeless case. It was good that PNoy started it. He was the guy because he did not need the money and, he was not used to stealing money because he is a rich boy who has been provided everything by Mom since Day One.

In a note before his assassination, Ninoy, the father, already told PNoy the son to be ready to take over and take care of Mom. He did not know that the son was destined to take care of the nation, not just Mom.
