The provincial police directorate has confirmed the arrest and indictment of several members of what the PNP believes is a gun-for-hire group who are apparently being protected, if not financed, by certain politicians whose identities have already been reported to higher headquarters, according to PNP Director P/Sr Supt Eduardo Carranza.

The PNP local chief said his marching orders from Pres. NoyNoyAquino and DILG Sec. Jessie Robredo is to arrest, indict, and cause the conviction of those responsible in the series of extrajudicial killings in Negros Oriental. He also intimated that those against the order, are batting for his transfer.

CRITICAL REPORTING

by: ELY P. DEJARESCO

People say that if Pres NoyNoy Aquino wants to clean up the mess in government, he must do so with clean hands. He can prove this by convincingly manifesting that he is not pressing for the impeachment of the chief justice so he can appoint a new chief justice who may reverse the case of hacienda Luisita, or, that his family can be paid P10billion instead of P5billion for the Hda Luisita to be given to 6000 farmer beneficiaries.

EDITORIAL

IT HAS BEEN NINE (9) SESSION DAYS AT THE senate impeachment court and so far, the prosecution has not yet made any devastating blow on the beleaguered chief justice that would tend to convict him to a life of perpetual disqualification to hold any public office.

According to defense panel chief Justice Serafin Cuevas, the penalty of perpetual disqualification to hold any public office imposed upon those convicted by impeachment, much more upon a chief justice of the Supreme Court ---is "worse than life imprisonment" because it speaks about stripping off the careers of those convicted by impeachment.
