FRONTPAGE
7,145 users & pushers yield

Under the new command of Police Senior Supt Nestor Tiempo, the number of those who voluntarily yielded to the police all over Negros Oriental as self-confessed users and pushers of illegal drugs have reached 7,145 as of last report Thursday, and rising.

Surprisingly (or expectedly?) Dumaguete has only over 700 turnout of yielders contrary to estimates of most barangay captains who placed it at 6,000 minimum users and or pushers in the city.

These were the consensus of ranking ABC barangay captain Angelita Ragay of Looc, famous for squatters and involuntary settlers.

Also Daro kagawad Vencio Tan gave the city estimate Daro being one of the rising haven of users if not pushers.

Also speaking at CROSSTALK over DYEM BAI RADIO were Commission on Human Rights officer Jessi Canete, with Sr Police Insp. Romy Cubo, deputy chief of police and PNP Officers Gary Caducoy and Jose Gonzaga.

They are admitted that the surenderees from Dumaguete is too low which means that most users and or pushers are on a wait-and-see attitude.

But Ragay and Ten say shabu supply in the city and province has gone very nil, and very expensive. Police believe that the pushers are just lying low “until the smoke clear up.”

But the police headed by PS/Supt Tiempo and Sr/Supt Jovy Atanacio city COP, said that the drive will be relentless and will come in several stages.

They admitted the yielders need rehabilitation. No one can just leave the drug vice without rehabilitation because surely there will be a relapse.

And the sooner the province and city can join in upgrading the existing NegOr Drug Rehabilitation Center in Talay motor pool, the better for the community and the victims.

Chairman of the Foundation running the center is civic leader Fernando Martinez , a former Rotary president and BCBP active leader.
