House Speaker installs PDP turncoats

Taking a special trip to Dumaguete for a few hours and flying back soon enough, House Speaker Bebot Alvarez Thursday administered the oath of hundreds of local political – converts and turncoats from among local mayors to barangay captains and others.

Only City Mayor Ipe Remollo is presently an LDP in whose banner he ran for mayor; and Gov Roel Degamo who started as an LDP but ran under the group Partido Negorense and NUP. The rest are turn-coats who switched political affiliations when the Duterte group won the elections.

However, their applications for LDP membership will still be approved by the national leadership. They are mere applicants but not yet official members.

600+ OF THEM

More than six hundred (600) local officials and grassroots leaders have taken their oaths as members of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino Lakas ng Bayan (PDPLaban) in a ceremony presided by House Speaker Pantaleon “Bebot” Alvarez, Thursday at the provincial convention center.

Among those who attended the basic membership seminar and oath taking ceremony were Mayors Beda Canamaque of Basay, Fritz Diaz of Siaton, Rey Concepcion of Tanjay City, Guido Reyes of Guihulngan, Pepe Abierra of Sibulan, Jimmy Clerigo of Canlaon City, Edsel Enardecido of Ayungon, Nathaniel Electona of Sta. Catalina, Edgar Y. Teves of Valencia, Nelson Ruiz of San Jose and Janice Degamo of Pamplona.

However, organizers of the basic membership seminar checked the attendance for the second time after it was noticed that a number of those who have taken their oaths in front Speaker Alvarez left the venue even if the ceremony was not yet concluded.

Those who skipped the seminar shall be considered merely as associate members while full membership shall be bestowed on those who opted to remain. Alvarez was accompanied by 2nd District Cong. Manuel Chiquiting Sagabarria during his visit.

Eleven mayors appeared before the gathering along with their delegations composed of vice-mayor, councilors, punong barangays and various grassroots organizations to declare their fealty to the party that carried former Mayor Davao City Rodrigo Duterte to the presidency. Their membership requires that they will financially contribute to the part considering its limited resources.

Jael Agbon, of the PDP-Laban provincial Secretariat, acknowledged that most of the mayors belonged to other parties during the last elections. The new dominant party only had Bacong Mayor Rudy Yee and Bayawan City Councilor Jerome Lames as the most ardent supporters of Duterte.

Dumaguete City Mayor Felipe “Ipe” Remollo officially ran under PDP-Laban in the recently concluded election, while Governor Roel Degamo ran under PDPLaban in 2013, switched to National Unity Party in 2016 and currently the Regional Director of PDP-Laban.
