National convention on federalism set in Dumaguete

The Hugpong Federal Movement of the Philippines (HFMP) led by convenor Atty. Joel Obar is set to host the 1st National Convention on Federalism on September 9 to 10 at the Negros Oriental Convention Center here.

Obar said in a local coordination meeting that President Rodrigo Duterte is expected to grace the opening ceremony. The convention banners the theme “Isulong ang Federalismo para sa Tunay na Pagbabago” which will gather more than 2,000 delegates from 18 regions in the country. The program will be opened with ecumenical prayer followed by and opening remarks of Dumaguete City mayor Felipe Remollo then welcome message by Governor Roel Degamo.

EDC invites NIR universities to join ‘Battle of the Brains’ Quiz Bee

With its relentless campaign on environmental care, the Energy Development Corporation (EDC) is set to hold a “Positive Energy Battle of the Brains (BOTB)” quiz bee this year in Negros Island Region (NIR).

According to Corporate Communications Officer Frances Ariola of EDC, the quiz bee is open to all college students who are enrolled in any of Negros Island’s colleges or universities. Each college or university should be represented by two students to join the contest. Questions to be asked will be on climate change, renewable energy, environmental preservation, and sustainable development. The semi-final round in Bacolod for Negros Occidental schools will be on September 28 while the semi-final round in Dumaguete for Negros Oriental schools will be on September 30. Telcos install faster wifi service at Dumaguete Airport

Passengers at the Dumaguete-Sibulan Airport can now expect a faster and stronger internet connectivity at the airport after telecommunication companies launched its free wi-fi service recently.

Telecommunication firms Smart Communications and PLDT installed the “SmartWifi” service which aims to provide faster, free and unlimited internet surfing to all passengers. PLDT Assistant Vice President and Head of Enterprise Service Fulfillment Management Harold Kim Orbase disclosed that this endeavor is in made in partnership with the Department of Transportation (DOTr). So far, Smart and PLDT has installed this free wifi service in eight airports across the country. Orbase said this is the fourth time they have installed this service in the Visayas.
