Life sentence for 2 drug violators


Three persons accused for violating provisions of the comprehensive dangerous drugs law of 2002, were meted stiff prison terms Wednesday two for life and additional 14 years in jail including a 69 year old resident of the Cadawinonan housing site, considered as one of the hotspots in the illegal drug trade in Dumaguete.

Found guilty beyond reasonable doubt for selling and in possession of illegal drugs are Lloyd Carl Tomaroy and William Piņero who were sentenced to suffer a penalty of life imprisonment and a fine of P500,000 each. In addition, the two were convicted for a maximum of 14 years for possession of shabu and additional fine of P400,000 each.

Tomaroy was arrested in Barangay Jawa, Valencia, Negros Oriental on March 5, 2015 while Piņero was arrested on February 9, 2015 at the Cadawinonan housing project.

Meanwhile, a 69-year old resident of Cadawinonan housing project had to spend the next 14 years of his life inside the New Bilibid Prisons in Muntinlupa after the court found him guilty beyond reasonable doubt for possession of 11 plastic sachets believed to contain shabu. Nestor Sorbito Ollague was arrested March 13, 2015.

On the other hand, Regional Trial Court Branch 30 presiding Judge Crescencio Tan Jr. spared Henry Bajamunde Guarino Jr. of Bolocboloc, Sibulan from conviction based on reasonable doubt. (By Choy Gallarde)
