Pope picks local boy as Saipan bishop

The Holy See announced the solemnity of the nativity of Saint John the Baptist, Friday, June 24, 2016, that his Holiness Pope Francis has appointed Reverend Father Ryan P. Jimenez as Bishop of the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa. Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. The date of ordination is set for Sunday, August 14, 2016, at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cathedral in Chalan Kanoa, Saipan. His Excellency Achbishop Martin Krebs, DD, Apostolic Delegate to the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands and Apostolic Nuncio to various islands countries in the Pacific, will be the primary consecrator at the ordinance.

Father Ryan Jimenez was born in the City of Dumaguete, Philippines, on December 18, 1971. His parents, Rogelio and Lilia Jimenez, Primarily raised him and three siblings in the Municipality of Larena in the province of Siquijor, Philippines. After his elementary years, Father Ryan entered St. Joseph Seminary in Sibulan, Negros Oriental, Philippines for high school.

On December 28, 2010, father Ryan was appointed Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI, succeeding the late Reverend Father Manuel Corcuera, who was Apostolic Administrator from April 6, 2010 until his passing.

With the appointment, Father Ryan Stated that “entrusted with fulfilling this appointment from Pope Francis through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, I will do my best to serve the people of God. Please continue to pray for our pope, our Apostolic Nuncio, our clergy, religious men and women, and people of God in the diocese. Please help me serve the Lord in ways everlasting and pray for me, your servant in Christ.”
