Alviola, Sonjaco assume Mayor, VM

Days after taking their oaths as vice-mayor and 1st councilor, Romeo T. Alviola and Saludario O. Sonjaco Jr. assumed as acting mayor and acting vice-mayor respectively after Valencia Mayor Edgar Teves decided to take a well-deserved vacation in the company of his family in Canada.

Teves, who lost his dutiful wife Chit prior to the May 9 elections, will be Canada for one month or more knowing that the municipality is in good and competent hands with his close allies assuming the top two posts.

Prior to his departure, Teves has given acting Mayor Alviola and the department heads clear instructions to vigorously implement his priority projects despite his absence.

Meanwhile, acting Vice-Mayor Sonjaco, a veteran legislator, has also committed to shepherd the necessary pieces of legislation in the Sangguniang Bayan, dominated by allies Atty. Jeneline Lorico, Curt Maturan-Sy, Atilano Dagoy, Nestor Timosan and Atty. Daryl Dy.

Unlike in his first term, there are only two councilors nominally in opposition to the Teves administration namely Citas Quitoy and Arnel Bantug, who took their oaths of office before the Barangay Captain of East Balabag.

Nevertheless, Vice- Mayor Sonjaco is optimistic that both opposition councilors will support the enactment of ordinances and resolutions that promote the general welfare. (By Dems Demecillo)
