Buglasan fireworks nets P38M for city


Capitol officials claim that in this year’s Buglasan Fireworks competition alone would surely generate at the minimum P 38 million for the city of Dumaguete.

Provincial Planning Officer Bimbo Miraflor made this assertion in trying to convince the City Council to approve its application to close the entire Rizal Boulevard from Corner Silliman and Rizal Avenues to corner Burgos Street and Rizal Avenue on October 22 and 23 for the pyrotechnics competition from 3:00PM to 2:00AM.

However, some councilors underscored the need for the organizers to duly inform the affected barangays, residents and establishments of the closure so they will be prepared and avoid unnecessary criticisms.

Miraflor said that the boulevard is deemed as the best venue for the fireworks competition, now on its 8th year, to accommodate the estimated 43, 000 visitors with 6, 500 foreign tourists, who will spend for their accommodation, food, transportation and pasalubong, some P 38 million shall have been infused to the local economy.

There are more than dozen entries from Central and Eastern Visayas with their pyrotechnics required to be set at the docking area of the city port to ensure the safety of spectators and participants while offering a wide vista for the two-day extravaganza.

He assured the City Council that the organizers have coordinated with the Philippine National Police, Philippine Coast Guard and other enforcement agencies to ensure the security of the festival patrons. (By Dems Demecillo)
