Dgte, Bayawan, Zambo gets P 13M from DILG

Three Local Government Units in Negros Oriental are eligible to receive up to P 13 million in grants from the Department of Interior and Local Government as incentives for earning the honor and distinction of practicing good governance.

The nationwide awarding of nearly 300 cities, municipalities and provinces coincided with the 25th anniversary of the passage of the Local Government Code of 1991.

Dumaguete City, Bayawan City and Zamboanguita were formally accorded the 2016 Seal of Good Local Governance particularly in the areas of transparency and accountability, planning and fiscal management.

Councilors Lilani Ramon and Joe Kenneth Arbas represented Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo during the elaborate ceremony, Thursday. The city has been cited for meeting the three core assessment areas of Good Financial Housekeeping, Social Protection and Disaster Preparedness plus all three essential areas namely, business friendliness and competitiveness, Peace and Order and Environmental Management.

Bayawan Mayor Pryde Henry Teves and Zamboanguita Mayor Glenson Alanano also received their awards for meeting the same criteria designed to recognize good governance performance particularly in the areas of transparency, accountability, participation and service delivery.

City DILG Officer Farah Diba Gentuya said that the three LGUs shall each receive P 5 million (for the two cities) and P3 million for the municipality cash grants to finance high-impact development projects aligned with their Annual Investment Program (AIP) such as school building, water and sanitation, farm-to-market roads, flood control, sanitary landfills, among others.
